Artist's Description
As seen from a helicopter, near Skagway, Alaska, virgin snow and ice top jagged mountain peaks; the birthplace of glaciers. Glaciers begin to form when snow remains in the same area year-round. Each year, new layers of snow bury and compress the previous layers. This compression forces the snow to re-crystallize. Gradually the grains grow larger and the air pockets between the grains get smaller, causing the snow to slowly compact and increase in density until glacier ice is formed.

Born in New Jersey but transplanted to Florida at the age of three, I now reside in Jensen Beach, Florida. I consider myself an opportunistic photographer, attracted by the composition of nature: green leaves against the bright blue sky, a yellow leaf floating on the dark water of a stream - colors, textures, patterns, light and shadow, or an unexpected encounter. As I continue to study the art of photography, I try to find new ways to highlight and show the beauty of nature.
