A female Panther looks up from feeding to survey her habitat.
The Florida panther (also known as mountain lion, cougar, or puma) and represents the only known breeding population of puma in the eastern United States. In 1967, the Department of the Interior listed the Florida panther as an endangered subspecies. Since then, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has worked closely with the state of Florida in an effort to maintain and hopefully, increase their population in the wild.
This sighting occurred at the Palm Beach Zoo in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Born in New Jersey but transplanted to Florida at the age of three, I now reside in Jensen Beach, Florida. I consider myself an opportunistic photographer, attracted by the composition of nature: green leaves against the bright blue sky, a yellow leaf floating on the dark water of a stream - colors, textures, patterns, light and shadow, or an unexpected encounter. As I continue to study the art of photography, I try to find new ways to highlight and show the beauty of nature. I also find enjoyment in the creative aspect of digital-editing, taking photography in a new or unexpected direction. I appreciate your visit to my site and hope you enjoy my photographs.
